Ask the mayor.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people say this referring to me.
No. I’m not an official mayor. In fact, I’m completely unofficial in every way. I’ve not ran for office nor do I plan to. Here’s the scoop…
I’ve lived in Knoxville my entire life. 39 years to be exact. 40 this November. A lot of my friends at work are transplants from Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida…pick a state. Naturally, they are constantly looking for advice. You know…the typical questions that aren’t always the easiest to answer when you’re someplace new. Questions like…
Where can I find a good vet?
Where can I take the kids this weekend?
What’s the best campsite around here?
Who’s got the best burger in town?
When is the best time to hit the grocery stores to avoid the crowds?
What barbershop should I avoid?
How do you say Maryville correctly? (for the record, it’s pronounced Muhrville…more on that later.)
So, this is where I come in. I’ve been here a long time. I’ve definitey ‘been there, done that’ a few times in this town and know a little something about the way things work around here. I guess that’s why they’ve pegged me the ‘Unofficial Mayor of Knoxville”.
As Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben says, “With great power comes great responsibility.” I can’t swing around town in tights (nor would you want me to), but I can offer advice on living in Knoxville and hopefully help a few folks out on the way.
So here goes. Read on a let me know what you think.
